Dina Bonnevie on getting pregnant at 19: 'It was hard, it came unexpectedly'
Veteran actress Dina Bonnevie opened up about the state of confusion she experienced after discovering that she was pregnant at 19 years old.
On Friday’s “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,” the actress admitted that it was difficult to be pregnant at such a young age.
“It was hard. Parang it came unexpectedly, parang I didn’t expect to be a mother at that time,” she said.
Dina recalled that her career was going up during that time.
“Young as I was, I was really confused. Parang I didn’t know, what am I gonna do? Am I really in love? Is this love or what? What am I going to do? Am I just doing this just to please some people or afraid na masira ‘yung (that I’d ruin the) reputation or what?” she said.
At home, her family also had their misgivings. Her dad thought her pregnancy was a disgrace and worried about what other people would say.
“He was so scared na, ‘Ah, masisira ‘yung (it’ll ruin the) family name,’ you know?” she went on.
Meanwhile, her mom suggested that the baby be adopted.
“But I’m like, ‘What am I gonna do?’ I mean, the only thing I was really sure of was I didn’t want my child to experience what I went through growing up na separated ‘yung parents,” she said.
Dina married Vic Sotto in 1982 and they have two children together, Danica and Oyo.
