Bunny Paras opens up about daughter Moira’s rare disorder

Bunny Paras is one proud mom to her eldest child, Moira, who remains strong despite losing her ability to walk, thanks to a rare disorder called Friedreich Ataxia.

On Wednesday’s “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,” the former actress looked back at the early days of Moira’s diagnosis, and said, "may taning daw ‘yung anak ko."

Moira was only 10 years old when she was diagnosed with the rare disorder. The doctors said she would live only up to 25 to 30 years old "kaya siya make-a-wish child,” Bunny said.

Friedreich Ataxia is caused by a gene defect from both parents, which affects some of the body’s nerves. Symptoms often begin in late childhood and can include trouble walking, fatigue, changes in sensation, and slowed speech. They tend to get worse over time.

Bunny signed Moira up for a clinical trial in hopes of finding a cure for her illness, and “because of the clinical trial, they’re telling me that there’s a miracle happening in my daughter’s body,” she said.

Moira is now 25 years old.

According to Bunny, they have been praying every day for her daughter.

“‘Yung mga kasabayan niya, really down low. Talagang mahinang-mahina and Moira is like in the middle and something’s keeping her kahit papaano,” she said.

Even though she can’t walk, Bunny said that Moira was “not deteriorating as much as she should.”

According to a previous report on Pep.ph, Moira completely lost her ability to walk when she was 17.

“Nag-full time wheelchair na siya dahil bumigay na talaga ang legs niya. Nawala na pati ang sensation ng legs niya,” Bunny said.

But not all is said, as Bunny shared her daughter is getting married soon.

Said Bunny, “na-in love siya kay Moira because of her strength also.”

Moira is Bunny’s daughter with Mohan “DJ Mo” Gumatay.

Later on, she was legally adopted by Bunny's husband, Tom Greenway.
