Sarah Geronimo gives a shoutout to Mommy Divine at Billboard Women in Music Awards: ‘You are my hero’
Sarah Geronimo made sure to honor a special woman in her life at the Billboard Women in Music Awards: Her Mommy Divine.
At the red carpet interview, the Popstar Royalty and the hosts were talking about being at an event that celebrates women.
“Women are beautiful, women are strong,” Sarah G said.
She added, “Women, especially mothers out there — shoutout to my mother, Mommy Divine Geronimo. You are the best, you are my hero. I love you very much.”
Sarah then saluted mothers and all the challenges they face.
“I mean, I cannot imagine myself being a mother. All the sacrifices a mother has to do for their child, it’s mind blowing,” the singer said.
Sarah made history as the first Filipina to be honored at the Billboard Women in Music Awards, where she received the Global Force trophy. The awards define women across generations and music genres who define today’s sound.
In her acceptance speech, Sarah said "this recognition signifies courage and hope. Courage to accept and embrace one’s self and the courage to break boundaries and rise above all the setbacks and challenges that every artist needs to face.”
“And the hope that one day, this meaningful moment will bridge the gap between the Philippines and other nations, collaborating, uniting as one to create change and positivity in the world through music. Once again I am Sarah Geronimo, from the Philippines. Mabuhay ang OPM. Maraming maraming Salamat po."
In X (formerly Twitter), she posted her full acceptance speech, which started with Sarah thanking her parents and crediting them as "the very first people who believed in me and supported me — my parents."
"Sa aking nanay at tatay, mahal na mahal ko po kayo," she added.
Her husband, Kapuso actor and host Matteo Guidicelli, was also present at the event and following the ceremony, they celebrated with her team at Universal Studios.
Sarah’s relationship with her parents has long been the subject of controversy. Mommy Divine and Daddy Delfin are allegedly against her relationship with Matteo, with Divine reportedly intervening at their wedding.
Matteo said in an interview, “Sana balang-araw maging OK ang lahat. Not just for me but for Sarah's peace of mind. Kasi at the end of the day, family is family.”
In 2022, Sarah penned an apology letter to her family. “Mahal na mahal ko kayo... daddy at mama ko. Araw-araw ko po kayo nami-miss at naiisip,” she said.
Sarah is best known for the songs “Tala,” “Dati-Dati,” “Forever’s Not Enough,” and many more. She released “My Mind” with Billy Crawford in February.
“It means having that power to influence people, and it also comes with a big responsibility.” @JustSarahG speaks about being a GLOBAL FORCE honoree at #BBWomenInMusic. ????
