Robi Domingo's grandmother dies on the same day as his wedding

Robi Domingo revealed that his grandmother died on the same day as his wedding to Maiqui Pineda.

The TV and events host opened up about his "bittersweet” day in an Instagram post. He posted a photo with his late grandmother, followed by another of him and Maiqui at her wake.

“January 6 was the happiest day of my life. My heart was filled with immense gratitude—from preps in the morning, to the ceremony, to the reception which lasted until dawn,” Robi said.

However, as Robi was about to leave, “my mom was sobbing as she tried to tell me that my Lola passed away that same morning.”

“Apparently, my family didn't tell us so that our focus was our magical day.”

Robi’s grandmother, whom he called Ina, took care of him especially when he was a toddler. He added that he loves her ube halaya and leche flan.

To end his post, Robi thanked his late lola. “Rest in peace, ina. Please look after us together with ama. Thank you, and we love you.”

Robi and Maiqui got married in a Filipiniana-themed wedding at the Diocesan Shrine and Parish of San Isidro Labrador in Pulilan, Bulacan. The reception was at the North Polo Club.

Robi and Maiqui got engaged in November 2022.

Last year, Maiqui was diagnosed with a rare form of an autoimmune disease called dermatomyositis, but Robi confirmed that their wedding would push through. The host stood by her side throughout the health challenges.

Robi was part of the variety show "It's Your Lucky Day,” which temporarily replaced "It's Showtime" for 12 days when it was suspended by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB).
