Kris Bernal reflects on 2023 journey and motherhood: 'My whole world felt so strange'

2023 was a big year for new mom Kris Bernal.

On Instagram, the actress shared a video of "how 2023 started and how it ended," and it featured her slowly going through her pregnancy, ending with her carrying her daughter Hailee Lucca.

In her caption, Kris said Hailee is the"little sunshine I never knew I needed."

"Thank you for saving me in 2023," she wrote. "You have filled a void in my heart that I know only could have been filled by you. Thank you, Lord, for the blessing of family!"

Kris also said that she "met someone entirely new" and it wasn't just her baby, but her own self as well.

"Honestly, I’ve lost myself in motherhood," she said. "I’ve struggled mentally, physically, and emotionally. Not sure of who I was anymore. My whole world felt so strange. I was drowned in motherhood."

"And, losing myself led me to find this newer version of me. I am broken and then rebuilt, I am stronger. I cry harder and I love deeper. I am constantly learning, growing, and adapting," she added.

She then dedicated a message to all the new moms: "I see you, I feel you, let's face 2024 with strength, resiliency, compassion, and grace (Even we're all sleep-deprived)."

Kris has been open about the ups and downs of being a mother. She previously said that although motherhood has been a challenge, she is constantly learning, growing, and adapting. During her pregnancy, she also spoke about dealing with hormones and embracing her body.

Kris and businessman Perry Choi married in 2021. They introduced their daughter Hailee Lucca in August.
