Julie Anne San Jose and Rayver Cruz were in Tel Aviv when Hamas attacked Israel on October 7. In fact, they were supposed to perform that very evening at the Smolarz Auditorium in Tel Aviv University.

The couple recalled their ordeal in "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda" Friday, saying it didn't sink right away that they were right smack in the middle of war.

Rayver had quite the answer when Boy Abunda asked if proposing to Julie crossed his mind at those very moments.

"Para sa akin, everything happens for a reason," Rayver began.

"Para sa akin, yung glimmer of hope ko, yung lakas ng luob, nanggagaling kay Julie. Iniisip ko, may reason kung bakit si Julie, magkasama kami sa Holy Land, and for me, mind body and soul, kasal na ko sa kanya," he continued.

[For me, my glimmer of hope, my strength comes from Julie. I was thinking, there must be a reason why Julie and I were together at the Holy Land. And for me, mind body, and soul, I'm already married to her.]

Julie Anne was visibly touched by Rayver's words, and laughed out loud when her boyfriend cracked a joke to end his serious statement: "Pero alam ng Panginoong Diyos na makakauwi kami, may chance pa kami kunnin ka as ninong."

Along with Boobay, Julie Anne and Rayver were supposed to perform at the "Luv Trip Na, Laff Trip Pa" show, scheduled on October 7 but that morning, Palestinian group Hamas launched attacks.

The Kapuso performers were able to safely land back home on October 9.

The Philippines placed Gaza under Alter Level 3, while Alert Level 2 has been raised over Israel, where at least 30,000 Filipino workers are located.

As of Friday, October 13, three Filipinos have been confirmed dead from the conflict. — LA, GMA Integrated News
