Janna Dominguez's daughter Yzabel had cough for almost 2 months before her passing
Janna Dominguez and Mickey Ablan's daughter Yzabel had a lingering cough for almost two months before her passing.
In an interview with PEP.ph, the grieving couple recalled the last days of their child, who died at 20 due to "sudden heart failure and lung infection."
Janna said they had been telling Yzabel to get a medical checkup as she has been suffering from asthma attacks.
"Kasi parang halos mahigit, almost one month to two months na 'yung ubo niya," Janna said.
"And then, ang sabi ng mga doktor niya is [nebulizer] lang, antibiotics, may lung infection siya. Pero, lupus free siya," she added.
The "Pepito Manaloto" actress said Yzabel had inactive lupus, and they had been worried it might complicate Yzabel's condition.
Janna said they felt relieved that Yzabel would get better with antibiotics, inhaler, and nebulizer, so what happened came as a big shock to them.
Yzabel previously survived moyamoya disease, a cerebrovascular disorder, so Janna saw her as a fighter.
"Hindi namin maisip na dahil lang sa ubo na 'yan, dito mag-start, alam mo 'yun, 'yung ganito," she said.
Janna said Yzabel was excited to meet her youngest brother. She gave birth to Leon on the same day that the 20-year-old died.
Mickey said his daughter suffered from shortness of breath as early as Thursday last week. He had been staying at her condo at that time.
Yzabel told him about it and he often checked up on her, asking her how she was feeling.
"Nagsabi siya sa akin—ako naman naniwala—may inhaler, may water," he said. "Kaya pinagsisihan ko, sana itinakbo ko na sa ER or hospital."
Mickey said Yzabel had an online checkup and he also called a home service blood test for her, as she did not want to to go a hospital. Everything was clear, so he thought she was fine and she was already taking medicine.
He then left for Pampanga, as Janna was due to give birth in an emergency.
Janna said she was still in touch with Yzabel while she was at the hospital, but they suddenly got a call from her yaya that their daughter collapsed.
Yzabel stopped breathing on the way to the hospital, but she was revived for 20 minutes and eventually regained her heartbeat. But the reprieve only lasted for a short time.
"Thank you ako nang thank you. Ta's biglang, 'yung feeling na parang rollercoaster, biglang another tawag na naman, biglang nire-revive na naman," Janna said.
Yzabel passed away on Saturday. Her wake will be held until Thursday, October 12, at La Pieta Funeral Homes, Angeles, Pampanga.
Janna said she and Mickey felt helpless that they were not by Yzabel's side while everything was happening.
"'Yun ang isa sa mga biggest regret namin na 'yung time na last breath niya, wala kami," she said.
Iwa Moto, who stood as Yzabel's stepmom for a couple of years when she was married to Mickey, also expressed grief at her passing.
"My heart is in so much pain... still can't believe that my Ate Chabelits is gone. Heaven is lucky to have such a wonderful person," she said.
