SWS: 64% of Pinoy households are fur parents; 67% are plant parents

At least 64% of Filipino households have pets at home while 67% have houseplants or gardens, according to the First Quarter 2023 Social Weather Survey posted late Thursday evening.

The survey was conducted last March 26 to 29, 2023 with a sample size of 1,200 Filipino household heads through face-to-face interviews nationwide with a sample margin error of ± 2.8%.

The survey excludes plants and animals raised to be sold for business.

Among the households with pets at home, dogs and cats are the most popular pets.

As to the types of pets owned, 78% have dogs with an average of two dogs per household.

Meanwhile, 50% have cats with an average of two cats per household.

The other pets mentioned in the survey are:

• Chicken/rooster (8%)
• Bird (3%)
• Fish (3%)
• Duck (1%)
• Rabbit (1%)
• Other pets (1%)

In terms of dogs versus cats ownership, 45% have dogs only while 17% have cats only.

At least 33% have have both dogs and cats while 5% do not have a dog or cat, but have another pet.

For the plantitos and plantitas, at least 67% of households have houseplants or garden.

According to the results of the survey, plants owners are less common in NCR and urban areas.

As to plants owned by area:

• NCR (39%)
• Balance Luzon (69%)
• Visayas (78%)
• Mindanao (69%)

As to plant owners by locale, 59%  are in urban areas while 77% are in rural areas.  — BAP, GMA Integrated News
