Paolo Contis on breakup with LJ Reyes: ‘Ang mali ko diyan is we never had a good conversation to talk about everything’

Paolo Contis looked back on his relationship with and breakup from LJ Reyes anew in an interview on “Updated with Nelson Canlas.”

Although he did not name LJ, the Kapuso actor and host said in a pre-recorded interview that while every relationship has its ups and downs, the pandemic played a role.

“I can say that during the pandemic, it was just not easy for us.”

He added, “It's just, iba yung way ko of facing the pandemic, dealing with the pandemic. Iba rin yung sa kaniya. And ako, masasabi ko na somehow, I was insensitive about how she felt about the pandemic. And I think yon, mali ko rin 'yon.”

“Siguro I'll leave it at that, again it will never justify what I did, it will never justify kung saan siya napunta,” Paolo said. “Ang mali ko diyan is we never really had a good conversation to talk about everything.”

Paolo also said that both happy times and breakups in relationships will always have a reason.

“But again, some people face it or deal with it better, some people deal with it poorly,” he said. “I cherish everything naman na pinagdaanan ko, especially the happy days. Of course, lahat yon, okay yon.”

He added, “But again, as I always say, I believe that my last relationship, 'yan 'yong pinaka kumbaga poorly handled ko, that I can say.”

Paolo was hurt that the relationship ended, but he said what's worse is how he had hurt other people.

“[Alam] ko nasaktan ako sa fact na ang laki ng impact ng mga nasaktan ko, especially that's her side di ba?” Paolo said.

“If only I could have, you know, fixed it better na hindi siguro naging ganun kalaki yung impact, kasi maraming nasaktan, hindi lang naman isang tao,” he added. “So maraming nadamay, so para sa akin, that was my mistake.”

In September 2021, LJ announced that she and Paolo had a difficult breakup. They have a daughter named Summer.

She was previously in a relationship with Paulo Avelino. They have a son named Aki.

Following their split, LJ and her kids relocated to the US.

LJ is now engaged to Philip Evangelista.

Speaking about LJ’s engagement, Paolo said, “She deserves to be happy.”
