Glaiza de Castro and husband David Rainey share old-fashioned way of how they kept their LDR alive

On Tuesday's episode of "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda," newlyweds Glaiza de Castro and her husband, David Rainey, shared how they dealt with their long-distance relationship day-to-day and during the pandemic.

"David really likes to send me letters. When we were apart, binibigyan niya ako ng handwritten letters," Glaiza said.

Explaining his old-fashioned ways, David said his relationship with Glaiza "felt different."

"It was a way to express how I felt rather than the normal email, Messenger, WhatsApp to send a written letter. And it became sending the notebook back and forward so I think it went between the Philippines and Ireland maybe three or four times."

"That was an important part of our relationship when we were apart," David added.

And that tradition continues today.

"Ngayon, I wake up and we have coffee together. We are together all day if we're not busy or working. We still write each other notes or messages, not necessarily sa notebook," said David.

"Nasu-surprise pa rin po ako," said Glaiza, sharing that David prepares her coffee and meals when she has tapings. "Pagkuha ko ng mga meals ko, meron note na, 'You can do this,' 'I'm with you,' 'Love you,'" she added.

The hardest time for the couple may have been during the pandemic when David was in Ireland.

"Hindi namin alam kung kailan kami magkikita ulit," said Glaiza.

She said they would both message the Bureau of Immigrations and Department of Foreign Affairs.

"Nung time na 'yun, di pa po open 'yung borders ng Philippines for foreign travellers. And alam ko na maraming makaka-relate din na mga Filipina na may partner din na nasa abroad," she added.

That's why they value communication or talking.

"Sobrang important since we [were] in a long-distance relationship. We [were] not physically together most of the time, especially the first few months, years of our relationship," Glaiza said.

Glaiza and David eventually got engaged in December 2020, and first tied the knot in Ireland in October 2021.

The got married a second time, in the Philippines this time, just this week, with the couple saying having two weddings was a joint decision.

Glaiza said they chose to do a beach wedding in Zambales "since very significant po sa 'min ang dagat. Nag-meet kami malapit sa dagat. Nagpo-pose sya sa 'kin sa harap ng dagat. Kinakasal kami sa Ireland sa harap din ng dagat so we wanted to continue that."

For her Zambales wedding, Glaiza wore a gown with Filipiniana touches by designer Jo Rubio.

Aside from her gown, Glaiza said, "Gusto ko rin pakita 'yung culture natin sa kanila so may mga lechon, ganyan, kung pano magcelebrate ang mga Filipino at kung pano magkaroon ng fiesta dito."

As for their future plans? Well, David just opened a cafe in Baler, Aurora while Glaiza said she will continue acting.

"Hindi naman ibig sabihin kinasal na kami at galing siya sa malayong lugar o sa ibang bansa at iba kami ng kultura na bibitawan ko 'yung mga ang gusto kong gawin so I wanted to still do acting," Glaiza said.

The couple also said they will start a family soon but not immediately.
