What is a 'situationship' and why is it considered a valid relationship status?
The online dating culture has definitely evolved through the years. While many people utilize online dating apps in hopes of meeting "The One," some users are also in it to date "casually."
But in 2022, a new breed of daters has emerged—those looking for a "situationship."
For those not in the know, a situationship is a casual yet clearly defined relationship with less pressure. In other words, you're exclusively dating but with no definite label.
In a Tinder in-app survey collected in October among 18 to 25 years old in the United Kingdom, the United States of America, and Australia, 49% of respondents said that they prefer situationship "as a way to develop a relationship with less pressure" over time.
"Young singles were still down to play the field this year, but they opted for a high-quality roster where everyone was on the same page," the study said.
Aside from situationship, the Tinder study also revealed that dinner dates could soon be outdated due to the rise of interest in other date activities like camping, taking a walk, and grabbing a cup of coffee.
In the survey, 73% of the respondents said they prefer less traditional, more authentic ways to get to know one another.
