2 brothers from Ifugao sell bananas to support younger sister through college

Two brothers from Lamut, Ifugao have been selling bananas to support their younger sister through college.

According to a "24 Oras" report on Friday, Jaymark and Jelsis Tuguinay sells their bananas at as a measly P5-7 per kilo, so their income is not enough for their family.

Their mother had already passed away, and they have two younger siblings who depend on them. Due to their financial situation, they decided to stop their own studies and pour their resources to their youngest, Glymcess.

"Sabi namin siya na lang ang mag-aral po tapos ibigay namin lahat ng kailangan niya tutal nakikipag-arawan naman ako, ganun din si kuya," Jelsis said.

("We told her she would be the one studying and we will provide everything that she needs since I am able to work and our older brother as well.")

Glymcess is a second year criminology student. She walks four kilometers before she can hail a ride to school for face to face classes, while she only has a mobile phone for online classes.

Sometimes the internet connection is poor, sometimes she does not have enough load for mobile data which makes studying a challenge.

Witnessing the sibling's struggles, their aunt, Edlina, wrote to the GMA Kapuso Foundation to request a laptop for her Glymcess.

A laptop was donated by Police Lieutenant Colonel Jesus Ostrea III, who was touched by the siblings' determination.

"Pagpatuloy mo ang iyong pag-aaral. Ang kahirapan ay hindi balakid sa pag-unlad [Keep at your studies. Poverty is not an obstacle to success]," he said.

Glymcess thanked him and the Kapuso Foundation for the support to her studies.

"Asahan n'yo po na pagbubutihin ko po ang aking pag-aaral para makapag tapos ako [You can count on me to study well so I can finish school]," she said.

The GMA Kapuso Foundation is accepting donations through bank deposits, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Shopee, PayMaya, Zalora, MegaMart, Globe Rewards, Metrobank credit card, and Lazada.
