Bella Poarch opens up on her difficult childhood in 'Living Hell'
Bella Poarch opened up on her difficult childhood in her new song "Living Hell."
In an episode of "Updated with Nelson Canlas," Bella said the song is the most vulnerable music she has released so far.
She also spoke about the song's music video and revealed the story behind its yellow theme—her own childhood room.
"My parents painted my bedroom in the color yellow, so they painted the walls yellow and they had the tiles color yellow and everything like the color yellow," she said. "That was them showing me that they had the power over my life."
In the same interview, Bella said she came from an "abusive family."
"I grew up not being able to be vocal, like not being able to express myself because my parents were very strict," she said.
Bella spoke about it more in the music video description on YouTube.
"My whole life, I’ve been trying to escape my childhood trauma, my living hell, and no matter how much therapy I do, no matter how much medicine I take, and no matter how far I try to run away... it always comes back to haunt me," she said.
"My room was yellow and had a lock on the outside. Yellow because it was a color I was forced to like growing up. It was my parents way of letting me know that they have the power in the house. And a lock on the outside because my parents wanted to make sure that I didn't escape when I was in there," she added.
Bella said it was difficult for her to relive everything while shooting the music video, but she wanted to share it when she is ready.
The TikTok star told Nelson that sharing her story and being there for others with similar experiences are the best part of being famous for her.
"I love sharing my music with people because I just want people know that they're not alone and that a lot of people struggle with the same things they do and to never give up," she said.
