Cherie Gil's son reveals actress was diagnosed with endometrial cancer last year
Days after Cherie Gil's passing, her son revealed that the actress was diagnosed with endometrial cancer last year.
On Instagram, Sunday, Raphael Eigenmann Rogoff posted a statement from their family announcing her death and sharing details on his mother's final days.
"Cherie was diagnosed with a rare form of endometrial cancer in October of last year after deciding to relocate to New York City to be closer to her children," the statement read.
"She then underwent treatment at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center of New York," it continued. "She spent her last days surrounded by family and loved ones."
The family said Cherie requested for her diagnosis to be kept private. In February this year, Cherie revealed that she shaved her head and moved to New York to start anew.
"Cherie fought bravely against her illness, with grace and strength. Despite her struggles, she always managed to exude courage and never lost her trademark sass, with, and infectious humor, or her larger-than-life personality," the statement further read.
"In the end, there are no words - only love. Cherie lived with all her heart."
The family thanked everyone who have showered them and Cherie with love and support.
They also asked everyone who has photos, videos, messages, and memories with the actress to send them to macherieamour621@gmail.com so the family can view them privately according to Cherie's wishes.
Raphael, for his part, wrote a short message for his mom in the caption.
"Words cannot express my love for you, Momma. I'm so proud of you."
