LGBTQIA+ community holds first-ever 'Pride Ride' in the Philippines
Members of the LGBTQIA+ community held the first-ever "Pride Ride" in the Philippines.
According to Bernadette Reyes' report on "24 Oras," Sunday, motorcycles bearing small rainbow flags went around Taguig City and Makati City.
"We want equal respect and we want people to understand na right now the universe is very diverse," said Pride Ride co-organizer Che Cruz.
"Malawak 'yung spectrum ng sexuality and everyone should have the same right kasi pare-pareho tayong tao," she added.
("The spectrum of sexuality is wide and everyone should have the same rights because we are all human beings.")
Like the annual Pride March, the Pride Ride aims to promote the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community, such as same-sex marriage.
"Sana in the future ma-consider na siya since ano naman na tayo eh, papunta na tayo sa time na mas naa-accept na ng mga tao 'yung LGBT relationships. So sana mag-level up 'yung community," said Williza Carino, who married her partner Katrina Leonardo in an online wedding based in the United States.
("I hope in the future it can be considered because we are heading to the time when people are more accepting of LGBT relationships. Hopefully, the community levels up.")
Meanwhile, 17 LGBT couples exchanged "commitment vows" in a ceremony in Quezon City.
