Chito Miranda on deciding to settle down: 'Novelty of rock 'n roll lifestyle wore off eventually'
As the frontman of the iconic band Parokya ni Edgar, there's no doubt that Chito Miranda had a rock and roll lifestyle.
In a Music+Talk episode on Share Ko Lang, Chito opened up about his "messed up priorities" back then.
"Dati 'yung priority ko would be girls who is someone I can party with, e. Alam mo 'yun? Na someone I can walk to a bar with and pagpasok ko sa bar, dapat lahat ng lalaki titingin, 'Ah, ang ganda ng kasama niya.' Parang ganu'n ang priority ko dati. Siyempre I was a kid, 'no?" he said.
("Before, my priority would be girls who are someone I can party with. You know? Someone I can walk to a bar with and when I get there, all the guys should look. 'Ah, he's with a pretty girl.' That was my priority. Of course, I was a kid.")
But Chito said that he reached the point where he matured and his priorities changed. He started to feel this way before he got into a relationship with his now wife, Neri Naig.
"Maybe because of my age or maybe because I grew tired of the lifestyle," he said.
"Gusto ko someone who will not just take care of me but who knows how to take care of herself," he added.
When he met Neri, whom he described as "independent and strong," Chito said he wanted her to be his girlfriend.
"Nagustuhan ko na I want her to be my girlfriend na mas bahay lang, kumbaga mas contained na 'yung mundo namin. Okay na kami sa kami lang kaya nga sabi ko 'I don't care about the nightlife.' May sinabi ako na ganu'n kasi priority ko na tayo lang," he said.
("I liked her, I wanted her to be my girlfriend and we'd be more stay at home. So our world would be more contained. We were okay with just the two of us, so I said, 'I don't care about the nightlife.' I said that because my priority was the two of us.")
Asked when he decided it was time to get married, Chito answered, "The novelty of the whole sex, drugs and rock 'n roll lifestyle wore off eventually."
"[Parokya ni Edgar] started playing professionally [when] I was only 17. I did nothing my whole life but play in a band," he said in a mix of English and Filipino. "Eventually, our hotel rooms went from party rooms to becoming meditation rooms."
Chito and Neri tied the knot in 2014. They welcomed their son, Miggy, in 2016.
Last May, Neri announced that she is pregnant with their second child. —JCB, GMA News
