Pokwang recalls son’s death while she’s in Abu Dhabi, says agency didn’t allow her to go home

Despite being successful in showbiz, Pokwang has had her fair share of painful and heartbreaking events that can make her cry to this day.

In an episode of “Tunay na Buhay,” Pokwang revealed that her son died while she was working in Abu Dhabi years ago.

She said she was told that her young son had a brain tumor and he didn’t survive the operation.

“Sabi ko, Lord, kung talagang hanggang doon na lang, kaysa nahihirapan siya. Sabi ko, sa murang edad niya, sa napakabata niyang katawan, salamat pinahiram niyo siya sa’kin,” she added.

[I said, Lord, if this is all we have, this is better than him suffering.’ I said, with his young age, young body, I thank you for lending him to me.]

According to Pokwang, despite her son’s death, her agency didn’t allow her to come home and she was able to do so only months later.

She said the management told her she couldn’t leave because she had to finish her contract first, or else she would have to pay for her own travel expenses. But she didn’t have money.

Pokwang admitted that during that time, she questioned God and her faith.

“Nakuwestiyon ko siya. Sabi ko, bakit mo ginawa sa akin ‘to? Meron po ba akong pagkukulang sa ’yo at sa kapwa ko? Sa pagkakaalam ko po wala. Kinuwestiyon ko siya which is hindi dapat.”

[I questioned him. I said, why did you do this to me? Have I done anything wrong to you or other people? As far as I know, I haven’t done anything. I questioned him, which I shouldn’t have done.]

Later, however, she said she realized that it happened because God wanted to make her stronger in the future and for her other children.

Before going to Abu Dhabi, Pokwang worked in Japan as an choreographer, entertainer, and dancer. She also sold food on the streets and was a house helper before becoming an actress.

Pokwang is now married to American actor Lee O’Brian, with whom she has a three-year-old daughter named Malia. She also has an older daughter named Ria Mae. – Franchesca Viernes/RC, GMA News
