Gladys Reyes reveals secret to 28 years of togetherness with husband Christopher Roxas

Breakups among celebrity couples happen left and right, so Gladys Reyes and husband Christopher Roxas remaining steadily together for 28 years, 17 married, is a sight to behold. 

In an interview with GMA News Online, Gladys revealed her and Christopher's secret: "Prayers, patience and partnership work for us." 

"Siyempre prayers, andun na lahat. 'Yung faith ninyo importante ‘yun. Pasensya — tons of patience ang importante, lalo na tayong mga babae di ba? At dapat ganon din naman yung mga lalake," she added.

[Prayers cover everything, and faith is important. Having tons of patience is also very important, especially with us women, right? But the same goes for men, too.]  

Gladys said in a partnership, communication is also important.

During fights, they would sometimes give each other space to cool down before talking to each other again.

"'Paggising sa umaga, makakalimutan mo na. 'Ba't nga ba ako nagalit kagabi?' So 'yun, bibigyan niyo rin ng space 'yung isa't isa. Dapat may sarili kayong time, may time for yourself [and] siya rin,"she added.

[When you wake up in the morning, you forget why you were angry the previous night. So it's important to give each other space. Each of you should have time and space for yourself.] 

Gladys doesn't believe in checking her husband's phone. In fact, she doesn't know his password.  

"'Di ako naniniwala na dapat maya't maya check-in mo yung phone. Sa 'kin, hindi tama yun. Dapat meron siyang sariling [privacy]," Gladys said.

"So, magi-ingat lang.'Di siya magtataksil kung checheck-in ko lang? Siyempre dapat kahit hindi [ko i-check] 'di, ba?" she added.

"Importante andun yung trust. So sa 'min yun, yung nagwo-work. Iba't iba tayo pero sa 'kin, faith ang pinaka-importante," she added.

[Your husband should have his own privacy. I don't believe in checking his phone. Are you saying, the only reason he doesn't cheat on me is because I check his phone? Husbands should not cheat, period. Trust is also important. These are the things that work for us. Of course, every relationship is different, but for me, faith is the most important.] 

Last January, Gladys and Christpher celebrated their 17th wedding anniversary and 28 years of togetherness. The couple have four children together.

Gladys will be starring as Rosa in "Pepito Manoloto: Ang Unang Kuwento" which will premiere on GMA-7 on July 17 after 24 Oras Weekend. — LA, GMA News
