Gigi Hadid asks media not to show face of daughter Khai

Gigi Hadid has made an appeal to media not to show the face of her daughter Khai.

In a “letter from a mamma” addressed to paparazzi, press and fan accounts, Gigi said she and singer Zayn Malik realized how their child’s privacy could be affected because of their celebrity status.

“As our baby grows up, we have to realize that we can’t protect her from everything the way we wanted to and could when she was smaller,” the letter read.

Pointing to their recent trips in New York City, Gigi said Khai had started to “want her sun shade lifted up and helps herself to it,” not understanding why she was covered.

“I also want her to see the most amazing city in the world [and] the beautiful and diverse people that walk down the streets of NYC,” said the American model.

“That is without stress of the media circus that comes with parents who are public figures.”

Gigi said she had asked around and come to the realization that blurring the images of children depended on the “integrity” of those sharing the photos.

She said they “have never intentionally shared our daughter’s face on social media” and they hoped other people would respect that.

The new mom added that they wanted Khai to “choose how to share herself with the world when she comes of age.”

“Our wish is that she can live as normal of a childhood as possible, without worrying about a public image that she has not chosen,” said Gigi.

“It would mean the world to us, as we take our daughter to see and explore NYC and the world, if you would please blur her face out of the images,” she said.

Gigi said she was doing this simply because she wanted the best for her baby and hoped this would shed a light on protecting minors, even those from a public family.

Before ending her letter, she thanked those who have been “so respectful” after she asked them to “keep a distance while I walked with the stroller.”

“I see you and I appreciate it. For a child, I can imagine that close or dramatic paparazzi frenzies must be overwhelming and disorienting,” said Gigi.

“It still is as an adult that understands and deals with it often,” she added.
