Spoken word artist Alfonso Manalastas on choosing to love when we’re forced to be apart
Poet Alfonso Manalastas has expressed his thoughts on choosing to love at a time when people are forced to be apart due to the pandemic.
In a video released on Sunday, the spoken word artist performed “When I Think About Love,” where he said love reminded him of his mom’s embrace, moments he never got to experience, and friends he hadn’t seen in a long time.
In a dimly lit room, the poet delivered his lines: “I realize, there isn’t a single second in a day that I don’t think about love, because there isn’t a single second in a day that I don’t think about all the people I miss.”
He added: “All the love I have yet to give them, and all the love I have yet to receive. For me, I choose to love.”
According to Alfonso, who began his spoken word journey in 2015, he finds inspiration in all forms of art, from films, exhibits, essays to other poems. – RC, GMA News
