Sebastian Castro says he can date only someone who’s out of the closet

YouTube sensation Sebastian Castro has shared that when it comes to dating, he doesn’t want to be with someone who is still in the closet.

In an episode of “Share Ko Lang” with Dr. Anna Tuazon, the Peruvian-Japanese model listed down his non-negotiables, which included “someone who’s out, who is on a point in life where they decided to come out of their closet.”

Sebastian himself knew how hard it was to come out. “I have been closeted for most of my life. I didn’t come out fully until I was 23. So I know that it’s not easy and I know it’s hard,” he said.

“Just because it is delicate doesn’t mean that you can’t be adamant about what you want in a relationship. I just know that in my case I kind of have known for years it’s easier to date someone who is out,” he added.

“But I guess when you meet someone, sometimes you just kind of give in to, well, and you just fight things to make a relationship work.”

Sebastian also pointed out that if a closeted person was to date someone who’s out, it would be “asking a lot … when you’re asking someone to go back into the closet for you.”

He said: “I think you have to find what’s the best for you, what’s the most healthy and loving relationship you can find for yourself. So I think you owe it to yourself to be careful about putting yourself in a situation that are going to be emotional damaging down the road.”

A big part of an LGBT+ relationship is acceptance, especially of the self, said Sebastian.

“[S]tart with yourself when it comes to acceptance. You wanna make sure that you are able to have accepted yourself enough that you can accept somebody else and their place in your life,” he said.
