Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo shares her win with mom and lola

In Rabiya Mateo's first Instagram post after becoming Miss Universe Philippines 2020, the beauty queen shared her victory with her mother and her grandmother.

"We made it, Mama and Lola!" Rabiya wrote in the caption of her Instagram post sharing a series of old photo of herself with her mom and lola.

Calling them "the strongest women that I know," Rabiya shared that her mom and lola "were single mothers but were able raise their children full of dreams and aspiration in life."

She continued and dedicated a short message to her late grandmother, "To my Lola Sol in heaven, your favorite apo is now Miss Universe Philippines. I love you so so so much. I wish you were still here witnessing our victory."

In an interview with GMA Network reporters before the coronation event, Rabiya said she is inspired by her mom to win the crown.

"I look up to my mom. She's a single parent and she's been conquering a lot of struggles in life," Rabiya said.

"She wants me to join beauty pageants because it's something that I am passionate about but scared to do. She would always tell that it's better to try and fail than have regrets. So I am here trying my luck and hoping to make her proud," she added.
