Parents, students share challenges of online learning

Both parents and students are experiencing challenges as the Philippines shifts to online learning amid the pandemic.

On Oscar Oida’s “24 Oras” report Friday, the students shared that these challenges included distractions and their parents’ different styles of teaching at home.

A video shared by grade 7 student Paul Benjamin Nora showed him being unable to focus on his assignments because his pet cats kept walking on his work desk and on top of his papers.

For 6-year-old Lyle Cruz, meanwhile, his 7-month-old sibling always wanted to play with him even during his online classes.

To solve the problem, their mom just used the mute function on the video call, saying his teachers and classmates had no issues seeing the baby play with his older brother.

“Ginagawa po namin, minu-mute na lang namin, para hindi marinig ’yung ingay ni baby,” said their mom Ydette Civ Alonzo Cruz.

Other students, meanwhile, had complained that their parents were stricter than their teachers.

One young student was shown crying hard, saying he preferred his “totoong teacher” and he just wanted to go back to school.

Five-year-old Rayden, however, had a different concern. He got angry because he thought what was being taught in his module was wrong when it said the color of pizza was blue instead of yellow.

He even pounced on the table and was on the verge of crying as he grudgingly used his blue crayon to put color on the drawing on his work sheet.

His mom Catherine Cuevas explained that parents just had to be more patient with their children during this time.

“Sobrang kailangan understanding ka sa bata, sa anak mo, huwag kang magagalit kahit anong mangyari, intindihin mo lang siya, suportahan mo lang siya kahit na anong mangyari,” said Catherine. – RC, GMA News
