Pangilinan household adopts 'aspin' as tribute to affectionate farm dog, Jondy

The Pangilinan household mourns the loss of a loyal farm dog, an aspin or Asong Pinoy, named Jondy who has been missing since the start of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) lockdown this year.

Sen. Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan said in a social media post that Jondy has been missing since March 2020 and his family, including his wife singer-actress Sharon Cuneta has decided to adopt another white male Aspin in memory of the lost dog.

They named the new dog Jondy Junior or JJ, a 2-month-old mixed breed or part Aspin, part Labrador.

Pangilinan shared that Jondy went missing during the lockdown on the second week of March 2020.

"Despite repeated searches by our farm hands, we were unable to retrieve Jondy. We have been unable to determine the reason for his sudden disappearance," he said.

"Upon hearing the news that he was missing, Sharon and the children were all deeply saddened and prayed and hoped then that we would be able to find him and have him return to the farm. Sadly, that was not to be. It has been 6 months now since he went missing. Jondy was our loving, loyal, and protective dog," he added.

In a post entitled "In Memoriam: Jondy, our Farm Dog. RIP March 2020," Pangilinan said "Jondy was, for several years, our Farm Aspin Dog. He was a loving and loyal farm dog. Always hungry for affection."

"During my regular visits to the farm, Jondy would always keep me company whether in the farm house, during farm meetings and during my long walks inspecting our farm crops. His favorite time with me was of course meal time and I always made it a point that we would have meals together," he said.

Jondy, he added, would reach out to him using his front paws seeking attention and affection.

"Jondy was a free spirit. He was gentle and well behaved but was fierce and protective of the family," said Pangilinan.

It was on Thursday that Pangilinan he introduced Jondy Junior or JJ, adding that "If Jondy was still around, I am certain, loving as he was, that he would have unhesitatingly welcomed JJ into our fold 'with open paws'. Meet our new farm dog named after our beloved Jondy, JJ." -- BAP, GMA News
