How to hold better conversations, according to Arnold Clavio
Arnold Clavio, the star of his own talk show "Tonight with Arnold Clavio" and awarded radio personality, just gave tips on how to hold better conversations with people.
For everybody who are just inside their homes feeling "trapped" with their families because of the quarantine, perhaps now is a good time to get to know your parents — even your annoying siblings — as people.
This is applicable too, to your helpers or drivers, who are living with you at home. Have a conversation over merienda and get to know them as people. Maybe you'll discover friends you didn't know you had all along.
1. Go direct to the point
Even if it's just small talk, Clavio advises for you go straight to the point.
"Wala nang paligoy-ligoy," he shared in an interview. "Direct to the point and hindi siya time-consuming. Kailangan maunawaan agad at maintindihan ng tao."

The host said that the ongoing coronavirus disease (COVID-19) was a universal topic you can share with anyone — but always remember to be up to date and check the latest news about it so you won't get left behind.
2. Always have an interesting story at hand
"Magsisimula at magsisimula ako ng spark para maging masaya ang pagsasamahan namin," he added. "Lagi akong mayroong baon na hugot na doon magsisimula ang kwentuhan."
According to Clavio, it's time to change the topic when a lot of people have already been entertained.
"Kapag marami ng tumawa, mauubos 'yun. Eh 'di baguhin mo na. Maghanap ka na ng bago mong baon, trivia o mga experience mo na maraming makaka-relate sa una ninyong paksa," he shared.
3. Believe in yourself
In order to not be awkward, Clavio advised to just believe in yourself.
"Dagdagan niyo ng tiwala. Kung kulang, dagadagan niyo. Dagdagan nang dagdagan niyo," he said.
It's not about being boastful, he shared. It's a matter of self-confidence.
"Iba ang self-confidence sa yabang so mawawala 'yung awkward moment kung sigurado ka sa sarili mo," he added.
4. Know when to stop talking
Clavio prided that he was great when it comes to timing.
"Kung naibigay mo na ang mensahe mo, tignan mo naman ang reaction. Doon mo malalaman na naging successful ka sa paghahatid ng mensahe," he shared.
The host also noted that people also need to learn when to shut up when it's the other person's turn to talk.
5. Never butt in
According to Clavio, it's a grave sin to butt in and just cut off what the other person was saying.
"Magbu-butt in ka, masisira mo 'yung diskarte din niya," he shared. "Hindi mo makukuha 'yung sagot sa tanong."
6. Always be sincere
To be and appear sincere, Clavio shared that it's important to maintain eye contact with the person you're talking to.
Aside from maintaining eye contact, it's important to appear and be interested in what the other person has to say.
"Nakita mo na it's about time siya na magsasalita, makinig ka," he added. "Kaysa 'yung nagsasalita siya tapos text ka ng text, kung ano-ano ginagawa mo. Nakakabastos 'yun, diba?
On another hand, when it's time to end the conversation, be truthful and say that you have to go.
"Malalaman mo na it will be okay din sa kanila. Basta maging transparent at totoo ka sa sarili mo." — Kaela Malig/LA, GMA News
