Derek Ramsay reveals he met his GF when he had almost given up on relationships
Derek Ramsay and girlfriend Joanna Villablanca have been together for over five happy years, and if there's one thing we can take away from their story, it's that love will catch you at the most unexpected time and place.
According to Derek, he met Joanna when he had almost given up on relationships.
"I’d given up on relationships and I was focusing on my career, and one day my friends came on and said 'Derek come on man let’s go out.' I’m like 'I don’t go out, I’m over that' and they are like 'come on, be one with the boys.' So I was like 'alright let’s go,'" Derek narrated in an exclusive interview with GMA News Online.
At the bar, the Kapuso actor was introduced to women left and right but no one caught his attention, until he was ready to leave the place.
Waiting by the elevator was Jo.
"I was leaving a bar that we’re in — and it was one of these bars up in some building I think like on the 30th floor or something — and she was waiting by the elevator. And I was waiting by the elevator and when my elevator opened, I went in and we kind of looked at each other. I told my friends, ‘guys, if you’re trying to hook me up, you should’ve hooked me up with her.’ And then doors closed thinking I’ll never see her again," Derek said.
He thought he'll never see Jo again, but two days later, a friend showed Derek a photo of a woman he wanted to introduce to Derek.
To his surprise, standing behind the woman his friend wanted to pair him with was...Jo!
"She was standing behind the girl that my friend was showing me. Sabi niya ‘type mo yan?’ Sabi ko ‘no. ‘Yong girl sa likod na-meet ko siya — well I didn’t meet her but nagkatinginan kami.' So we did a little investigative work, we found out who she was and we got to meet and we got along and the rest is history," he said smilingly.
The family setup
Derek said he and Jo took their time on getting to know each other before making their relationship official.
"That’s how we met but it took nearly a year before we made it official. We took our time."
He said he liked Jo because she is "somebody who’s more mature and being a mom makes you very responsible and I like that."
Derek said after a few years their relationship progressed and they decided to move in together.
"After a few years, we slowly kind of, parang it just happened na she moved in," he said.
What excited him the most is making room for Jo's daughter Sofie.

"I was excited to make a room for Sofie and things have been going fine since then," he added.
Derek said at his home, they have a family setup. He would see Sofie every other week, he said he loves Jo's daughter like his own.
"Para kaming nagbabahay-bahayan na. It’s like we have a family, her daughter is in the house every other week so one week with her, one week with the father, and I love her like my own. Actually, she’s my stress reliever. Sometimes when I come home and I see her there, I’m happy that she’s there, sometimes ako pa yung naghahanap sa kanya."
