Noy, Kris Aquino lead celebration of Cory's birthday on social media by posting old childhood pics with her

The late Corazon Aquino was commemorated Saturday with childhood mementos collated by her children, led by former president Benigno "P-Noy" Aquino III and showbiz personality Kris Aquino.

On the eve of what would have been late president's 85th birthday, Kris Aquino on Instagram thanked those who joined their family in commemorating her mother.

The former president meanwhile took to Twitter, posting a  slideshow of photos showing a younger Cory Aquino with her kids.

The first woman president of the Philippines — also the icon of the People Power Revolution that overthrew the Marcos regime — passed away September 2009 after a long bout with cancer.

Just as she wished, she was laid to rest beside her husband, opposition leader Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr.

As the grave was visited by her supporters on Thursday, Senator Paolo "Bam" Aquino, in a separate Twitter post recalled his aunt's message to the Filipino people from 1996:

"I acknowledged that I owed my presidency to People Power. I resolved during my presidency that I would in turn empower the people."

The rest of her children, Ballsy Aquino-Cruz, Pinky Aquino-Abellada and Viel Aquino-Dee, along with several relatives, also paid their respects at Cory's grave.
