Manila International Film Festival postponed due to LA wildfires
The Manila International Film Festival 2025 has been postponed due to the wildfires raging in Los Angeles, California.
In a statement, MIFF Chairman and Co-Founder Omen Ortiz said the festival, originally scheduled on January 30 to February 2, will be rescheduled to a later date.
"We are devastated by the tremendous impact of the wildfires on many people, including the Filipino community. At this time, as we pray for the people experiencing trauma and loss, we ask all to continue supporting the fire relief efforts," he said.
"We look forward to announcing the new dates of this year's MIFF where we plan to honor the frontline workers and volunteers, including the Filipino first responders, who are heroically battling the wildfires."
At least 24 people have died due to the wildfires. Over 150 Filipinos also sought help from the Filipino Workers Center in Los Angeles after losing their homes.
Aside from the MIFF, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences also postponed the announcement of this year's Oscar nominations due to the wildfires.
The MIFF was launched last year, showcasing all 10 entries at the Metro Manila Film Festival 2023, including Best Picture "Firefly."
This year, it will once again feature all the MMFF 2024 entries, including Best Picture "Green Bones," and other films like "Hello, Love, Again," "Genghis Khan," and "Song of the Fireflies."
