'Your Name' director Makoto Shinkai to announce new film in 2025

A new movie by Makoto Shinkai will be announced this year!

On X (formerly Twitter), the Japanese filmmaker wished his beloved fans a Happy New Year and shared that he spent 2024 working on a new movie.

"It's a great joy to build a new world that no one has seen before from scratch with my colleagues," Shinkai wrote in Japanese and translated by X in English.

"I'll do my best to announce it in some way this year. I hope 2025 will be a peaceful year for everyone," he added.

Shinkai is the director behind the hit animated films "Your Name," "Weathering With You," and "Suzume." His 2007 film, "5 centimeters per second," will have a live action adaptation this year.
