This hiking app hilariously lists Kamuning and Shaw as Philippine peaks

PinasPeaks, a hiking app and tracker that allows users to tick off Philippine mountains from their bucket lists, hilariously listed Kamuning and Shaw as peaks.

Kamuning near the GMA Network Center in Quezon City has a footbridge that is 30 feet high, equivalent to being on the third floor of a building.

Filipinos often call the overpass Mt. Kamuning and would post about reaching its summit.

PinasPeaks, likewise, describes it as “the urban Everest of EDSA, towers above the cityscape, infamous for its knee-wobbling height and breath-stealing steepness.”

The app also brought up points about infrastructure in Metro Manila.

“Opened in 2018 with a hefty price tag, it serves as a stark symbol of a car-centric culture that sidelines pedestrians and underscores the city's struggle to create walkable, accessible spaces,” the app said.

“By prioritizing vehicles over foot traffic, 'Mt. Kamuning' stands as a high-altitude reminder of the uphill battle for a more pedestrian-friendly city.”

Meanwhile, Mt. Shaw refers to the Shaw MRT station, which has an infamous long and steep staircase that goes several floors up. In fact, it was only in 2020 when an escalator was added by the “EDSA Trail.”

PinasPeaks wrote that, “Mt. Shaw offers a daily urban climb that's not for the weak-kneed. Decked out in work attire, you tackle the steep stairs, preferably with the Rocky theme song fueling your ascent.”

“At the summit, instead of breathtaking views, you're rewarded with the MRT queue that rivals the sea of crowds in Mt. Pulag.”

The app also said that Mt. Shaw’s summit can be reached through these directions: “Starmall Trail, Shangri-La Trail, or by using the elevator at the base.”

Make sure to be prepared and stay safe for these intense climbs, Kapuso! —JCB, GMA Integrated News
