Wilma Doesnt recalls getting discriminated for her skin color

Wilma Doesnt guested on Mikee Quintos's show, "Lutong Bahay," where she opened up about the discrimination she experienced due to her skin color.

Mikee and Chef Ylyt visited the actress and supermodel for the show's Friday episode, where they cooked chicken inasal.

While sampling their cooking, Chef Ylyt asked Wilma if she ever experienced getting discriminated for her brown skin.

"Super, hindi pa uso ang salitang bully, na-bully na ako," she shared, adding that she would cry a lot before because she would be teased for her skin.

When asked by Mikee if she took these to heart, she answered no.

"Hindi kasi first thing pa lang meron nang may nagsasabi sa 'yo ng katotohan. Bakit ka iiyak pag tinutukso ka ng Negra? Bakit, hindi ba totoo? Oo nga naman, totoo nga naman. Truth hurts. Bata pa lang ako alam ko na 'yun."

According to Wilma, she experienced this in showbiz and the modeling industry as well.

"Nung dumating ako sa modeling industry, lahat sila nagulat. Sino 'yan? Ang itim itim, ang payat... 'Yung buhok mong kulot hanggang dito. 'Yung mga model talagang, 'Sino 'yan?' Parang ayaw ka nila," she said.

As to how she reacted to these instances, she shared that she would just brush these aside because she needed to work.

"Gipit ako, kailangan kong pera, kailangan kong trabaho, walang pakielam," she said.

Wilma's eldest daughter, Asiana, has also followed in her footsteps as a model while balancing her studies.

Wilma previously starred in the GMA Afternoon Prime series "Abot-Kamay na Pangarap."

Catch "Lutong Bahay" on weekdays at 5:45 p.m. on GTV.
