5 things we learned about Atom Araullo in his #AskMeAnything session on Reddit
Atom Araullo is the latest Kapuso journalist to sit down for GMA Integrated News’ #AskMeAnything session on Reddit.
The award-winning documentarist gamely answered questions from curious Reddit users, who quizzed him about his recommended reads, his college degree, his realizations on life, and more.
Here are five things we learned about Atom.
1. What book is he currently reading?
Atom said he is currently working through the massive tome of Russian writer Leo Tolstoy, “War and Peace.”
“Akala ko boring pero hindi pala. Another good book I read recently is Stoner by John Williams,” he said.
2. Does he watch anime?
Atom said he is a fan of Studio Ghibli co-founder Hayao Miyazaki, who directed iconic films like “Spirited Away,” “Howl’s Moving Castle,” and most recently, “The Boy and the Heron.”
As for anime series, he said, “The most recent one I watched was ‘Attack on Titan.’ Sobrang galing.”
3. What music does he listen to while running?
“Iba-iba eh. I have a very eclectic taste in music,” he said.
But in terms of genres, he recommends listening to jazz and funk when going out for a jog.
4. Does his applied physics degree help him in his career?
Atom said his degree is actually a huge help in his journalistic work.
“I think everyone will benefit from a science education. It teaches you a way of thinking that's useful for many different fields of endeavor,” he said.
5. What are his realizations now that he’s in his 40s?
“I've learned to value patience and consistency more and more as I approach this stage of my career. Was it the way I expected things to be when I was younger? Yes and no,” he said.
“I don't think anyone could have predicted how different the information landscape is nowadays. But I think journalism is still important.”
