MTRCB won't review 'Lost Sabungeros' yet due to sub judice rule

"Lost Sabungeros" has not yet secured a rating from the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) that will allow it to be screened on television and regular cinemas.

According to GMA Public Affairs, the MTRCB will not review the documentary film in the mean time due to possible violation of sub judice rule, which prohibits cases in court from being commented on publicly.

However, the board explained the next steps for the film to acquire an MTRCB permit.

"Lost Sabungeros" is the first investigative documentary film of GMA Public Affairs. Directed by Bryan Brazil, it looks into the disappearances of over 30 sabungeros or cockfighters who have been missing since 2021.

The film was supposed to premiere at the Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival last August, but its screening got canceled due to "security concerns."

It eventually premiered at the QCinema International Film Festival earlier in November.

"Lost Sabungeros" will also have a theatrical run at the University of the Philippines Film Institute (UPFI) on November 28 and 29.
