MUPH Organization condemns pageant vlogger's comments vs. Chelsea Manalo; vlogger apologizes

The Miss Universe Philippines Organization issued a statement on Friday condemning the comments of pageant vlogger Adam Genato about Chelsea Manalo's performance at the recent Miss Universe 2024, where she was crowned the first-ever Miss Universe Asia.

The MUPH Organization called Adam's video commentary about the Filipina beauty queen "unfair, insensitive, hurtful, and dismissive of her accomplishments."

"We do not tolerate bullying and irresponsible vlogging especially from an accredited MUPh media partner whom we have welcomed in our events," the organization said.

"For too long, we have allowed such behavior to be tolerated because bashers and haters have been an accepted part of social media. But in reality, we still have a choice to normalize it or speak up against it."

According to the organization, pageant vloggers should be more careful when sharing opinions about Philippine delegates. It also hoped that those with platforms should be more responsible with the commentaries and content they publish.

"Making potentially or intentionally controversial statements for clout and engagement, but at the expense of delegates, is detestable," it said.

After the Miss Universe 2024 pageant on November 17, Adam had remarked in a video commentary on his platform that two other Miss Universe Philippines candidates would have done better in the international pageant.

He also pointed out Denmark's Victoria Theilvig, who was crowned Miss Universe 2024. "Kasi tingnan mo, sinong pinanalo nila, si Denmark, Barbie-looking. Sino bang closest Barbie-looking natin dito nung nakaraang MUPH?"

Following the MUPH Organization's statement on Friday morning, Adam took to social media on the same day to apologize to Chelsea and the organization.

In an emotional video, the pageant vlogger asked for forgiveness from Chelsea and her team, the MUPH Organization, and pageant fans.

"Chelsea I'm really, really sorry about what I said about you. It was never really my intention to really hurt your feelings," he said, adding that she has worked so much to be where she is.

He admitted that he spoke carelessly and that he should have been "more diplomatic and tactful."

He also said that Chelsea and the MUPH Organization have shown him nothing but kindness.

"I just want to really say sorry because I hurt all your feelings and it was never my intention to do so. I should have been more careful with my choice of words, it's only now that I'm realizing that," he said.

Chelsea ended her campaign in the Miss Universe 2024 pageant in the Top 30. During a post-pageant press conference, she was named Miss Universe Asia.

The Bulakenya beauty queen is set to travel around Asia and will also be part of some of the official trips of the Miss Universe organization.
