As All Souls' Day approaches, one is compelled to remember the dearly departed, from family members and friends to beloved pets.
This year saw the departure of some celebrity pets, adorable cats and dogs who took social media by storm and brought immense joy to millions of people the world over.
Their presence online has become ubiquitous, featuring in pop culture memes, reels, and posts that it's almost impossible to imagine a world without them.
These internet-famous fur babies may have crossed the rainbow bridge in 2024, but they remain in the countless hearts they've touched — fondly remembered, always celebrated.
1. ‘I Go Meow’ Cat

Cala, the cat who went viral on TikTok for her adorable “I Go Meow” video, crossed the rainbow bridge in May.
According to her fur mom, Elizabeth, Cala died of old age.
Elizabeth adopted Cala from a shelter, but the latter had gotten sick and would not recover. Tests then showed that Cala was much older than what was thought by the shelter and her veterinarian.
"You all will allow her to live on forever. To never be forgotten for how special she is," Elizabeth wrote on social media.
2. Seven, the ‘Walking Dead’ dog
Seven, the beloved dog from the series “The Walking Dead,” reached heaven’s gate in June.
Following his death, fans of the well-loved series paid tribute to Seven on social media.
“That's so sad. He was a good ‘Dog’. May he rest in peace and keep all those great memories you made with him,” a user commented under the show’s Instagram page.
3. Chowder, the chow chow
Another celebrity pet that we lost this year is Chowder, the internet-famous chow chow dog.
Chowder passed away on July 31, two days before his birthday.
According to his fur parents, Chowder was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease (IMHA), cancer (malignant melanoma in gums), bone spurs, arthritis, and battled an infection.
"We know that he will have the grandest celebration eating treats with other pets, unlimited chicken and running around free with all the other dogs in heaven," his fur parents wrote then.
4. Kabosu, the ‘doge’ meme
Kabosu, the Shiba Inu behind the famous "doge" meme, broke the hearts of fans when she passed away in May.
According to her owner Atsuko Sato, she went “very peacefully without suffering.”
Sato adopted Kabosu in 2008 after a visit to the animal shelter. Kabosu was a rescue from a puppy mill and was set to be euthanized by the shelter when she and Sato crossed paths.
Kabosu was 18 years old at the time of her passing.
