Harry Styles says years spent with Liam Payne will forever remain 'most cherished' of his life

Harry Styles said he is “truly devastated” by the passing of his One Direction bandmate, Liam Payne.

The singer paid tribute to Liam in an Instagram post on Friday. He shared a photo was one of Liam performing in front of a large crowd at a stadium and captioned it with a black heart.

In his statement, Harry said that Liam's greatest joy was making other people happy, and "it was an honour to be alongside him as he did it."

"Liam lived wide open, with his heart on his sleeve, he had an energy for life that was infectious. He was warm, supportive, and incredibly loving,” he added.

For Harry, the years they spent together "will forever remain among the most cherished years of my life."

"I will miss him always, my lovely friend,” Harry said, adding that his heart breaks for Liam’s parents Karen and Geoff, his older sisters Nicola and Ruth, his son Bear, “and all those around the world who knew and loved him, as I did.”

One Direction previously honored Liam in a joint statement.

“The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever,” the band said. “We love you Liam."

Harry’s mother, Anne Twist, also reacted to Liam’s death in an Instagram post.

It was announced on Thursday morning that Liam died after he fell from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was 31 years old.

Tributes poured in from Liam’s fellow artists, which include Charlie Puth, Zedd, Paris Hilton, and many more.

Liam pursued a solo career when One Direction had an indefinite hiatus in 2016. His solo songs include “Strip That Down” featuring Quavo, “For You” featuring Rita Ora, and “Bedroom Floor.” His latest single, “Teardrops,” was released in March.

One Direction, composed of Liam, Harry, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik, had a two-night concert in Manila in 2015. Their hit songs include “Night Changes,” “What Makes You Beautiful,” and “Story of My Life.”
