Irha Mel Alfeche promotes urban home gardening in Miss Earth 2024 advocacy video

Philippine bet Irha Mel Alfeche talked about creating opportunities for a better living in her official and heritage video for Miss Earth 2024.

In the video, the Filipina beauty queen included clips of the country's mesmerizing natural scenery and introduced herself as an "advocate of urban home gardening."

According to Irha Mel, millions of people globally suffer from hunger, and many lack access to nutritious food, which leads to malnutrition. Factors including rapid population growth and poor infrastructure also affect food distribution from rural to urban areas.

"Today, I am here to open up a conversation, a decision that you can make," Irha said. "If you take care of the Earth, it will take care of you. Let us grow what we eat and eat what we grow while we still have the energy, access to resources, and time to heal for ourselves, others, and the planet."

Irha Mel was crowned Miss Philippines Earth in May.

In July, she posted about the importance of planting trees following the destruction caused by Super Typhoon Carina.

The Miss Earth 2024 coronation night is happening on November 9 in Okada Manila. Miss Earth 2023 Drita Ziri will crown her successor at the event.
