Spotify launches refreshed 'Pinoy Music Hub' as OPM streams 'quadruple'

Spotify Philippines launched its refreshed "Pinoy Music Hub" as streams of Original Pilipino Music continue to rise on the platform.

According to data from the streaming platform, OPM streams have quadrupled over the past five years.

Pinoy hip-hop, in particular, has seen a 600% increase in global daily streams in the past five years. P-Pop, on the other hand, recorded a 138% year-on-year increase in streams on Spotify in the past year.

Majority or 75% of the tracks on Spotify Philippines' Top 50 chart are also now OPM, Spotify said in a press release.

The refreshed Pinoy Music Hub was launched at the Spotify Lounge: Philippine Edition event on Tuesday at the Samsung Hall in SM Aura Premier, where local artists and music lovers celebrated 10 years of OPM's growth on Spotify.

The hub features 50 playlists with the aim to promote Pinoy music and the discovery of local artists. It includes the latest hits by genre in Tatak Pinoy, Kalye, and P-Pop on the Rise; classic faves in OPM Hits of the '80s, 90's, and '00s; and soundtracks suitable for just about any mood and vibe in Kilig Pa More, Hugot, and Panalo, among many others.

“Pinoy music continues to reach new fans across genres and borders. Spotify not only delivers an unparalleled, personalized music experience for listeners, but also serves as the platform for artists to grow their audience and build deep connections with their fans," said Kossy Ng, Head of Music for Spotify Southeast Asia.

“With an impressive 80% average growth in Pinoy artist global exports year-on-year, we remain dedicated to empowering Filipino talents and continue elevating Pinoy music on the global stage. I’m excited to bring their music to even more fans around the world,” she added.

Filipino artists and music were also honored at the event, with Ben&Ben and Moira Dela Torre named as Spotify’s inaugural "decade definers" for their record-breaking songs that have touched many listeners.

Rising stars Hev Abi and Maki were also recognized for their inventive music styles and their role in influencing the next generation of OPM.

Songs like “Tadhana” by Up Dharma Down; “Kathang Isip” and “Maybe The Night” by Ben&Ben; “Kung Wala Ka” by Hale; “Pano” by Zack Tabudlo; “Ikaw Lang” by NOBITA; “Mundo” and “Come Inside Of My Heart” by IV Of Spades; “Pasilyo” by SunKissed Lola, and more were also honored at the event for their contributions to the music industry.
