How can we get rid of mold in our house? Kuya Kim explains

With the prevailing rainy season comes a common problem: mold forming inside houses.

As seen in Kuya Kim's report in "24 Oras Weekend," Sunday, AJ Cabatuan went home from a two-week vacation to mold forming on his things such as his wooden cabinets, caps, bags, tumbler and even pens.

"Parang kanin tapos nabulok. Grabe ang sakit sa lalamunan," AJ said, adding that the mold might have come from the water that seeped through the walls of the room.

According to Kuya Kim, mold is a type of fungus and microscopic organisms that can grow anywhere.

"'Yung hangin natin may mga spores 'yan na nagfo-form ng molds. They are very tiny pero once na nakapasok 'yan sa isang structure. Basta mayroong mataas na moisture, humidity, nagmu-multiply sila," Pest Management Professional Alhmar Cervantes said.

There are many reasons why mold grow in households. This includes things getting damp or wet and poor ventilation.

While they have an important role in our nature, mold can be harmful to our health.

But how can one get rid of mold in a household?

"Get professional help from a cleaning service. Look for the source of moisture tulad ng mga leaks saka mga water accumulation so kung kailangan takpan, ayusin. Discard the materials if possible, 'yun nga 'yung nakukulob kasi, so kailangan nagsi-circulate 'yung air," Cervantes said.

As for AJ, he has decided to dispose of the items and do a general cleaning of their house.
