Residents in Batanes affected by Julian receive relief goods from GMA Kapuso Foundation

Residents in Batanes who were affected by Super Typhoon Julian have received relief goods from GMA Kapuso Foundation through its Operation Bayanihan project.

According to "24 Oras" Friday, the foundation flew to Batanes with the help of the Office of Civil Defense to deliver aid to some of the evacuees.

Citing the latest data from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) - Batanes, the "24 Oras" report said that 7,090 families in Batanes were affected by Julian. Meanwhile, 2,124 houses were destroyed, with 256 of these totally damaged.

Carol Hubalde, a provincial social welfare development officer in Batanes, also said that eight families still remain in an evacuation center in Basco.

"Itong eight na 'to totally wala silang mababalikan na bahay kasi natangay at natumba 'yung bahay nila," she said.

These include Linda Delos Santos and her family, who are still recovering after Typhoon Kiko wrecked their home in 2021, as well as Miraluna Balbao and her own family, who are in need of wood and galvanized iron sheets to rebuild their home.

The GMA Kapuso Foundation delivered the relief goods to the evacuees and is set to return to Batanes on Saturday to distribute more relief goods to other residents in Batanes who were affected by Julian.

"Itong bagyo na 'to naging isa pang dahilan kaya 'yung mga resources namin medyo kulang kaya nagpapasalamat kami sa inyo. At least 'yung naibigay niyo sa amin, sa kanila, maibsan 'yung sa pangangailangan sa pagkain," said Hubalde.

For those who wish to support GMA Kapuso Foundation's projects, donations may be made via Metrobank, Land Bank, BDO, Bank of Commerce, UnionBank, PNB, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Lazada, and Shopee. Visit the GMA Kapuso Foundation website for more information.
