Makoto Shinkai's '5 centimeters per second' is getting a live action film
Makoto Shinkai's beloved film, "5 centimeters per second," is getting a live action adaptation!
A new website has been launched to promote the film, which will be released in 2025 and will star Hokuto Matsumura.
Hokuto is a member of the band SixTONES and also voiced Sota Munakata from "Suzume no Tojimari," another Shinkai film.
"5 centimeters per second" premiered in 2007. Divided into three segments, it follows a boy named Takaki in three different periods of his life.
Takaki reflects on his feelings for a girl named Akari, who had been separated from him back in middle school after her family moved away from town.
The title is a reference to the rate which cherry blossom petals fall to the ground, a metaphor for the distance growing between human beings as time passes.
Shinkai is the director of the blockbuster anime films "Your Name" and "Weathering With You."
