PH Army's 2ID donates nearly P800K to GMA Kapuso Foundation for Enteng victims

The Philippine Army's 2nd Infantry Division donated a total of P794,208 to GMA Kapuso Foundation (GMAKF) to help those who were affected by Tropical Storm Enteng and the Habagat (Southwest Monsoon) early this September.

According to "24 Oras" on Monday, two Kapuso classrooms in Matagbak Elementary School and Virgilio Melendres Memorial Elementary School in Pililla, Rizal, weren't spared by the heavy rains caused by Enteng.

While the structure of the classrooms was able to withstand the storm, the students' and teachers' equipment inside, such as computers, modules, and printers, were left destroyed.

Per the report, about 5,000 soldiers from the 2ID donated one day's worth of their P150 daily meal allowance to help the communities who were hit by Enteng.

"Noong malaman nila na ito naman ay para sa ikabubuti ng ating mga kababayan, naging biktima [ng bagyo] walang nag-hesitate. Lahat ay approved," said 2ID Assistant Division Commander BGen Jose Augusto Villareal.

The troops of the 2ID are longtime constant partners of GMAKF in carrying out its disaster relief operations and other projects nationwide, including the construction of Kapuso classrooms and schools.

In 2022, the 2ID was alongside GMAKF to build Kapuso classrooms in Quezon in the wake of Typhoon Karding.

"It is particularly touching to me kasi sila ang kasama natin sa mga relief distributions. Kakainin na lang nila, dinonate pa sa atin. That really means a lot," said GMAKF Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Rikki Escudero-Catibog.

After delivering aid to communities affected by Enteng, GMAKF will next work on the development infrastructure projects for Enteng victims.

The GMAKF also visited some Kapuso schools in Montalban, Rizal, that were also hit by Enteng.

For those who wish to support GMA Kapuso Foundation's projects, donations may be made via Metrobank, Land Bank, BDO, Bank of Commerce, UnionBank, PNB, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Lazada, and Shopee. Go here for more information.

Early this month, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that Enteng has caused almost P700 million worth of damage to infrastructure in six regions.

Most of the residents affected by Enteng are also from Central Luzon, followed by the Bicol Region and the National Capital Region.
