1,000 Bulacan residents affected by Carina receive medical services from GMA Kapuso Foundation

The residents of Marilao, Bulacan, are still reeling from the effects of super typhoon Carina and the southwest monsoon (habagat) that hit the Philippines back in July.

According to "24 Oras" on Monday, the GMA Kapuso Foundation took to Barangay Lambakin to bring free medical services to residents who were still dealing with flu, cough, and cold in the super typhoon's aftermath.

A total of 1,000 residents received medical services through the foundation's Kapuso Karavan project, which held medical check-ups, dental services, and optical services in the area.

The concerns of Brgy. Lambakin were brought to the attention of GMA Kapuso Foundation by the National Housing Authority (NHA), per the report.

"During the typhoon Carina, nagmo-monitor po kami ng resettlement. Nakita po namin ang pinakagrabe po na naapektuhan nito ay yung Marilao o Brgy. Lambakin," said Alvin Feliciano, assistant general manager at NHA.

Among the beneficiaries of the project is resident Marife Laruga, who has been dealing with recurrent flu, made worse by a lump in her neck.

During the health caravan, she underwent an ultrasound and blood examination, and also received medication for a wound on her foot, which got infected after she waded into the flood.

Many of residents of Brgy. Lambakin were also afflicted with upper respiratory tract infection and hypertension.

"Meanwhile, karamihan meron silang upper respiratory tract infection, second 'yung hypertension. Reason 'yung typhoon na Carina, may iba kasi di nakapagtake ng gamot nila," said Dr. Arnold Roque, a family and community medicine specialist at Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center.

Free medicines and meals were also distributed to the residents in Brgy. Lambakin, while school supplies were given to kindergarten and Grade 1 students.

To support the Kalusugan Karavan and GMA Kapuso Foundation's other projects, donations may be made via Metrobank, Land Bank, BDO, Bank of Commerce, UnionBank, PNB, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Lazada, and Shopee. Go here for more information.
