'Firefly,' Jose Rizal,' more MMFF classics to be screened this September for P50

Heads up cinephiles! Some of Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) classics will be screened this September, and the good news is you can watch them for only P50!

On social media, MMFF announced that it would be screening 50 movies, including "Firefly" and "Jose Rizal," from September 25 to October 15 in cinemas nationwide.

Produced by GMA Pictures and GMA Public Affairs, "Firefly" follows the story of a boy who goes on a journey in pursuit of his late mother's stories.

The film starred Euwenn Mikaell and Alessandra De Rossi, who both won acting awards for their performances. Other cast members include Dingdong Dantes, Epy Quizon, Miguel Tanfelix, and Ysabel Ortega.

It took home the Best Picture Award at the Metro Manila Film Festival 2023 and recently bagged the Silver Award for Best Asian Feature Film/Telemovie at the ContentAsia Awards 2024.

Meanwhile, "Jose Rizal" starring Cesar Montano bagged 17 awards at the MMFF 1998, including Best Picture, Best Screenplay, and Best Cinematography.

Aside from Cesar, the "Jose Rizal" cast members include Jaime Fabregas, Chin Chin Gutierrez, Mickey Ferriols, Ronnie Lazaro, Gloria Diaz, Pen Medina, Gina Alajar, Tony Mabesa, Jhong Hilario, and more.

A digitally restored and remastered version of the film was recently screened in Cinemalaya 2024.
