World's second largest diamond found in Botswana

The world's second largest diamond was found in Botswana in Africa, one of the biggest diamond producers globally.

According to Kuya Kim's report on "24 Oras," Tuesday, the 2,492 carat-diamond was discovered through x-ray technology.

Each carat is equivalent to 0.200 grams or 200 milligrams. Aside from identifying its weight, the carat also tells the value and quality of a gemstone.

"Malaki na talaga 'yung value niya kasi kahit na makakuha ka ng hindi naman perfect tapos ganun kalaki, hindi na ordinaryo 'yun. Hindi mo masabi kung ilang bilyon 'yun," said gemologist Blaise Badar.

Diamonds are hard materials because of their unique structure.

"Carbon 'yan eh, sa ilalim talaga 'yan. Mostly Africa, 'yung weather nila, marami talagang diamond. Pinakamatigas na mineral na 'yan," Badar said.

White is the most common diamond color we see, but it also comes in every color of the rainbow. The rarest diamond colors are blue, green, orange, and red.

Meanwhile, the biggest diamond discovered was also found in South Africa in 1905. It measured 3,106 carats.
