AFP donates P4M to GMA Kapuso Foundation for Typhoon Carina victims

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the GMA Kapuso Foundation (GMAKF) have fostered a strong and longstanding partnership, with the former serving as a constant partner to help carry out the foundation's outreach programs nationwide, such as providing transportation, manpower, and security.

Recently, the AFP donated P4 million to GMAKF to help those who were affected by super typhoon Carina and the Habagat last month.

According to "24 Oras" on Wednesday, the donation came from the soldiers' subsistence allowance. From their P150 daily meal allowance, the soldiers voluntarily donated P50 to GMAKF.

Half of the donated amount will directly go to the families of soldiers who were affected by Carina, while the other half will go to GMAKF to support its projects.

"Partner parati 'yung GMA Kapuso Foundation and 'yung Armed Forces hindi lamang sa pag-distribute ng relief goods or pag-rescue ng biktima nitong mga kalamidad na ito, but we are also donating money galing po sa puso ng ating mga sundalo," said AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo S. Brawner.

Brawner turned over the donation to GMAKF Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Rikki Escudero-Catibog.

According to Escudero-Catibog, the amount will go to GMAKF's development infrastructure projects for Carina victims.

"Makakaasa po kayo na makakarating sa mga naapektuhan ng bagyong Carina 'yung aid na binigay niyo via developmental infrastructure projects," said Escudero-Catibog.

"Sa affected areas, which is in NCR, maghahanap tayo ng isang medyo napuruhan na lugar na hindi gaanong nakakaangat. Dun tayo magtatayo ng school," she added.

Last month, Metro Manila, Bataan, Bulacan, Batangas, and Cavite were placed under a state of calamity amid heavy rainfall and massive flooding brought by Carina and the Habagat.

It was estimated that 3.6 million people were left affected by the combined impact of the Habagat, Carina, and Tropical Cyclone Butchoy, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) in July.

The country's agriculture sector also incurred losses amounting to about P1.2 billion due to the onslaught of Carina and the Habagat, the Department of Agriculture said last month.
