GMA exec Bernice Sibucao selected for CUNY Executive Program in News Innovation and Leadership

GMA Integrated News Senior Manager Bernice Marie S. Sibucao has been selected for the fifth Executive Program in News Innovation and Leadership of the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at the City University of New York (CUNY).

Sibucao, also the Deputy Head of GMA Integrated News' Digital Strategy and Innovation Lab, is among the 20 journalism leaders and innovators selected for the executive program. She is the lone Filipino in the group.

This year's cohort is comprised of distinguished news professionals who are poised to transform the media by introducing progressive strategies, as well as pioneering innovative business models and profitable products in the journalism industry.

Aside from the Philippines, other representatives hail from Brazil, Jordan, Argentina, Finland, Singapore, Denmark, Germany, France, Spain, and the United States.

The Executive Program in News Innovation and Leadership will run from Sept. 9, 2024 to June 27, 2025. It will be done online, with in-person residencies in Fall 2024, Winter 2025, and Summer 2025. The Helsingin Sanomat Foundation has provided tuition support for the cohort, while the Newmark J-School will offer a full scholarship to its Social Impact Fellow.

The year-long executive program aims to train media leaders in navigating "the intersections of product, editorial, business, and technology" to develop novel revenue models and advance innovation in their respective news organizations.

Currently, Sibucao serves as Secretary of the Asian American Journalists Association-Asia and is a fellow in the London School of Economics and Political Science's Journalism AI program.

She was also a fellow of the first joint U.S.-Asia cohort of AAJA's 25th Executive Leadership Program and was the lone Filipino selected for The Poynter Institute's 2022 Leadership Academy for Women in Media.

Under her leadership, she has positioned GMA Network as a major player in the digital scene by launching innovative and award-winning programs that drove billions of viewership.

She graduated from the Ateneo de Manila University as magna cum laude, with a bachelor's degree in communications.
