Manager who yelled in viral coffee shop video gets suspended; customer airs out concerns
A video taken inside a coffee shop has gone viral online after a customer shared his disturbing experience inside its premises.
In an "FYP" report, Gino Mariano said that he was in line to order when a guy approached him, asking for money from him and his companion.
But when Gino declined, the beggar started shouting and pushing them, so they asked for help from the store’s barista, who was also the manager.
In the viral video, the manager could be heard yelling, "You want us to do your job?"
“Ang ginawa niya, instead na tulungan kami, mas gumilid pa siya,” Gino recalled, adding that the manager shouted and pointed at them, asking them to leave.
“Super alarming and sketchy ng ganoong scenario na wala silang guard during daylight,” he added.
Following this, Gino was informed that the manager had already been suspended, but he still fears that he might come after them.
According to Atty. Leo Lalusis, the Civil Code’s Article 2180, paragraph 4, is applicable to this situation.
“I think ang applicable sa kaniya ay ‘yung paragraph 4 ng 2180, which states na ‘yung owners and managers are liable doon sa act ng employees nila,” he said. “Nawalan ng maximum tolerance ‘yung manager eh. Kumbaga, it is incumbent upon him, as a manager, to pacify the situation.”
In an official statement, Starbucks Philippines said that they are aware of the incident that occurred and have already contacted the customers involved.
“Ensuring that everyone feels safe, secure, and welcome in our stores is our top priority, and we will take all necessary measures to achieve this,” they said. “This matter is being taken very seriously and is currently under investigation. We sincerely apologize for this experience and will follow up closely with those involved to provide support.”
