Chowder, internet-famous chow chow dog, dies 2 days before his birthday

Chowder, the internet-famous chow chow dog, has passed away.

The sad news was posted on Chowder's Instagram account by his fur parents.

"We would like to thank everyone here, that has been following Chowder for the past 11 years. To everyone that has commented and messaged us with kind and comforting words, thank you. Chowder has fought a tough battle, but it brings us peace knowing that he is now running free without any pain in doggie heaven," the post's caption said.

"He has brought so much joy, smiles and happiness to peoples hearts with his floofy self. He has touched the lives of so many, and we want you all to know that he left the earth peacefully and is no longer suffering or in pain."

Chowder passed away on Wednesday, July 31, two days before his birthday.

"We know that he will have the grandest celebration eating treats with other pets, unlimited chicken and running around free with all the other dogs in heaven."

"Again, thank you for following him and watching all of his dogventures here on social media. Chowder is a legend and will never be forgotten. May you rest in peace, Chowder. He will watch all of us. We love you."

On July 22, Chowder's owners asked for prayers after he was taken to the doctor.

"We would like to sadly share that our favorite floof has been diagnosed with an auto immune disease (IMHA), cancer (malignant melanoma in gums), bone spurs, arthritis and is currently battling an infection," they said.

As of this writing, Chowder's Instagram post has over 330,000 followers.
