Miss Philippines Earth 2024 Irha Mel Alfeche highlights importance of planting trees after Carina

Reigning Miss Philippines Earth Irha Mel Alfeche took to social media to remind Filipinos of the importance of planting trees following the destruction caused by Super Typhoon Carina.

In a Facebook post, Irha said, “The planet does not owe anything to us, it is our responsibility to safeguard our HOME.”

“We cannot stop natural catastrophes from occurring, but we can at least prevent them from happening soon,” she added.

According to the beauty queen, we can prevent extreme heat, flooding, earthquakes, landslides, and more by simply planting trees.

“TREES ARE ABLE TO SAVE US AND CAN PROTECT US FROM EVERY CATASTROPHIE. REMEMBER, DESTRUCTION CAN BE PREVENTED TO HAPPEN BY TREES,” she continued. “Set that action into motion by initiating it within yourself. Plant a tree and together, let's stop catastrophes from happening.”

She also encouraged her followers to share photos of themselves engaging in tree planting activities.

“Together, let's encourage everyone to support and help our mother earth, the nature and OUR HOME,” Irha said.

Metro Manila, Bataan, Bulacan, Batangas, and Cavite were placed under a state of calamity this week amid heavy rainfall and massive flooding brought by Carina and the Habagat.

Many celebrities, including Heart Evangelista, Marian Rivera, and Dingdong Dantes, are helping to donate and distribute relief goods to affected residents.

Sparkle stars have likewise volunteered their services to repack relief goods at GMA Kapuso Foundation, while proceeds from the recently held GMA Gala 2024 have also been diverted for the benefit of communities affected by the calamity.

Several organizations and businesses have also launched donation drives to provide food, water, and other essential items to those affected by the floods.
